Venice, planning a ticket for tourists

VENICE – On tuesday a meeting of the thirteenth Senate committee was held on the special law for Venice. At its conclusion, Senator Giampiero Dalla Zuanna told journalists that a working hypothesis is to introduce a ticket for tourists. “Twenty-five million is not just a few,” he said, “even if it is not easy to understand which step to take in this direction. One option is to follow the example of Milan, where payment of a kind of ticket to enter the city centre allows various services to be financed, even if we consider that not everything can be covered in this way.”
According to Dalla Zuanna, "There are two key factors that should be included in the new special law. The first is the question of residence, because Venice cannot continue to lose its inhabitants: different urban planning tools or more extreme ones are required compared to other places. The second keyword must be ‘lagoon’, since we cannot think that it will become an arm of the sea, in which case, it would lose its special nature. Hence, we should consider, for example, introducing sediment into the lagoon environment. Furthermore, the best governance practices need to be identified for these two aspects even if I know that it is not easy. All this should be taken into consideration, while absolutely preserving the work already done and the technical skills acquired, for example, with the MOSE project.”
